Best servers in Europe....

Having checked over the last week I can now say to all of you that you are now playing on the best servers in Europe for "new" maps.

There are perhaps five servers in Europe that come close to ours which are 20/20+ player servers (our mates at VS-UK have two) but nobody in Europe offers the range of maps we do on a publically accessible server!

HS1 has been reconfigured now and I will publish a timetable soon (hopefully today) that will let you see what is running and when - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Suffice it to say that there are something like 30 DM/TDM maps and 15 OBJ maps for your killing sprees

You will notice that the server restarts every 3 hours (hence you lose your connection for around a minute). This is so it can load map rotations/gametypes suitable for the time of day (or night). Each three hour rotation consists of 6 maps, 15 mins duration repeated twice. After that three hour rotation then another will be loaded. These three-hour resets occur at 06:00, 09:00, 12:00 etc, etc.

This has taken considerable time to do and has eaten up quite a bit of time for HS1 admins. If you find a map with a serious problem such as telefragging then please report it to us. However if you find a map that you don't like for whatever reason then we really don't want to hear about it as others will enjoy them - go do something else for 15 minutes and another map will be along. We will notice the maps that are not popular and as new maps come out we will replace them accordingly.

As far as HS2 goes - that will be doing the same thing shortly. We saw no point in having both servers running the same map/gameplay rotation, hence HS2 will "lag" a bit behind HS1 before a similar plan is put in place as we'd like to get it right first time.

We hope you all like what is coming.....

Rizla's done an excellent job with the setup of HS-1. He and the HS-1 admin team have spent absolutely hours setting up custom configurations and diary bookings in order to achieve what he has described.

Well, mostly it's been Rizla doing all the work so far, although the HS-1 admins have helped a little with choosing maps for the custom configs. All the HS-1 admins will be kept busy making sure the server is kept running.

Soon, HS-2 will be configured similarly to HS-1 although it will run different game types and different map selections in comparison at the same time with HS-1

And don't forget, subscribers may also book the servers for something other than Medal of Honor!! Keep them admins busy!!

"Best servers in Europe" you'd better believe it!! 8)

Well done and thanks Adslrizla and all core admins :D

The statememt above is testament to your dedication and hard work.  :D

The amount of work that the 'core' core admins do is largely unseen.

You wouldn't believe how much time these guys spend keeping our gaming experience as fruity is it is.

I'm just happy i stumbled over these guys on bbs.adslguide.org.uk earlier on in the year, it's made the whole trip into online gaming better than i could have ever hoped for.

Thanks

As promised the timetable is done. It is unfortunately in MS Word format, so I hope you all have something that can read and print that.

Download it from here. I suggest you print it out for easy access.

Just to say well done to you all. If i hadnt stumbled over ham 3 and met Skid i would never have been a part of all of this. I wouldnt have got so much ear ache from the Mrs either!!!. lol.

Its not just the running of the servers though, its also allowing 56 kers to play and copying maps for them too, plus answering all the stupid questions with a smile.

Once again, well done, you have all made my first trip into online gaming that much enjoyable.

Thank you

Chris

Aaaaarrrgggghhhh! I've just remembered your CD with all the maps on it.

Bugger...

Gotta agree! I've had the best games and the best laugh for a long time since I started using the hamster servers. Took a while to download all the maps but it has been well worth it even if there are a few niggles with some of the maps. By providing so many different maps it allows everyone including the map makers to find out what works and what doesn't and that can only lead to more improved maps.

Keep up the good work fellas, it really is appreciated!

Must admit I to count myself lucky to be a HamsteR as some of the stories I got from mates concerning cheating and general juvenile behaviour on some games meant I approached gaming with a large amount of sceptic trepadation.
Then mOrpheen introduced me to being a HamsteR and I've not only had a blast but also been very pleasently surprised. Not only no cheats (not that I've noticed) but it appears even us big kids can play nice.
The admins have even been able to help me over my complete inability to press a button on a keyboard without crashing not only mine but everyone elses pc's. Thanks fellers.

PS Steve if your reading this THANKS MATE.

Calibrax

I've been gaming online since Quake II came out... but I never joined a clan or a group, because I had never found one that had like-minded people to myself. Many of the clans around are populated by 14 year olds, and so I had absolutely no interest in joining them!

I stumbled across the Ham5 server completely by accident, and visited the website to download the maps. While waiting for the downloads to finish, I had a browse through the forums, and was very surprised at what I found!

Here were a group of people, running a very well organised and maintained server, with an easy to use, great looking website (with no popups or javascript errors), and I found I agreed with a lot of the things I saw posted on the forum! So, after playing on the servers for a while, and seeing how well the {HamsteR}s played (i.e. without cheating, and 100% fair), I applied to join.

No regrets! And when the opportunity arose to contribute towards the excellent {HamsteR} servers, I jumped at the chance. I can't express enough appreciation for the job that the admins are doing, keep it up guys!

Total score for the {HamsteR} experience :  11 out of 10!   :D

Thanks Guys

Oh I know you weren't hinting mate - maybe you should have (with a big hammer   ) to remind me. I am doing a CD of maps for a friend this weekend so if you PM me your address (again) I faithfully promise to send it out (it'll have some maps on it that aren't on the Barryservers yet).

Apologies once again - those who know me know that I have a memory like a wossname

Hi HamsteRs,

I'd agree with this too, a while back I played on a few servers trying to find a decent set not just for speed, but also for the right sort of people.

I found the Ham servers, with some help from my m8 {HamsteR}Major Lumpy, and I haven't looked back since.

Once I've been accepted to join the gang, I'll happily subscribe to help spread the cost.

Keep up the great work :-)

Cheers
