lmao@Steve

But why would i upgrade to a more expensive card when i can simply tweak the one i have to gain a superior level of performance?

Cost me a ton less that yours did and it outperforms it...... hmmmm

Its like those people who pay for Pentium chips when an AMD will overclock to give superior performance for less money.....

Being a scientist i know that a comparison of like for like is the most viable comparison, but the point i was trying to get across is a stock 9700 can be out performed by a tweaked 4600.....

It isnt Dr Millington just yet dude, gotta finish my Caco II cell work yet.....

And when I o/c my one, it will outperform your FX (when you get one)....

In the meantime I'm quite happy with my card, it does what I want it to. And there are still no games out there that fully utilize it's features. That's when your card will suffer... when true DirectX 9 games are released.  :P Mine is future-proofed (well, as much as anything can be in the computer industry!)

And, to cap it all, mine can run at AGP8x, but I'm currently running it at 4x. So, technically speaking, my card is actually running below stock specification! :)

Nowt wrong with a Pentium. Better for multimedia than a AMD. As for gaming, allegedly the AMD has the edge, and is better value for money. In practice... well, I have an AMD XP2000+, and a P4 2GHz... and it's the P4 that performs best imho.

Spyke, have you still got Paul's popcorn?  Chuck it over 'ere m8 and I'll settle down for the duration

hmm.. bored of popcorn now.. /me goes to get some nachos :D

P-Dub

Dont worry Richie, i've been too busy having violent guts that i havent had chance to post my coup-de-grace move here.....

Undergrid seems to like quoting all these test sites, yet the test sites he quotes for the engines that matter say what i have been saying all along....

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030512/geforce_fx_5900-18.html

Even at high levels of FSAA and AF the 5900 still outperforms the 9800..... strange eh? Sure in some tests the 9800 is clearly the better car, but i'll bet my mountain bike will outbrake anyones porsche 911.... :D See the point? i doubt it.... there is always gonne be that one test that the best gets beaten in....

Bottom line is this, the 5900 is gonna be louder than the 9800, given, but it will outperform it, in a general gaming environment, and its almost exactley the same price release price, in fact the 5900 is prolly gonna be a little cheaper when the launch rush ends....

So u lose a PCI slot, wooooo i dont even have anything in my PCI slots any more and i have 5 of em to play with anyway....

Seems the fanATIcs have lost the plot a little, they quote the nvidia det drivers...... the fact that a lot of beta drivers get released basically nullifes this point, one of those beta drivers will most likely be stable and people will be happy with em...... its like having a free beta test dept! Then they quote the noise levels....... my system runs 6 fans anyway, cant see 1 more making all that much difference....then they quote about this lame FSAA and AF arguement, but i've just shown that in the majority of tests the 5900 is in front of the 9800 FPS wise......

-------Edit-------------

Anyway everyone has their own opinion, you will buy and use what u decide to based on your own personal preference, 90% of benchmarks mean nothing anyway, mainly due to the differencess between your system and the test bed system.....

I have to agree with Fluffy on this one, this is all getting out of hand, lets just let it lie and agree that the true king of all graphics cards is without a doubt the Voodoo 2! :D

lol this is like the nilly forum and subject matter pings  to jolt

BTW im supprised some of you lot want faster graphics cards after all you cant shoot shite now, imagine what you would be like with something even faster  :BIG:  :wow:  :taunt:

Right i'll add my twopenneth in before things get out of hand.

Personally, i couldn't give a monkeys if the ati card is better or not. When i bought my ti4600 it was streets ahead of the competition and i remain happy with my choice. It cost me an arm and a leg as i bought it the day dabs got it in stock so i'll not be upgrading until i feel i've had my money's worth :D

When i do get to the point of looking at a new card, i'll take into consideration both perfomance and price irrespective of brand, and i think the majority of gamers follow a similar course of action. There will always be those that are loyal to a brand, and that isn't a problem but when brand loyalty decends to bickering and personal attacks on people that otherwise we'd call friends, i'm afraid the line has to be drawn.

Consider this a reality check - keep the thread sensible or it will be locked

Just to say my previous post has now been edited...... but i really have to post this pic, i spent about 15 mins editing this, now way i am missing out on posting this...... lol

Same here... I bought my Ti500 when it was top of the range, and I bought my 9700 Pro not long after it came out too. You read the reviews, and ask around your friends, and make a decision. TBH I would probably have bought a FX if there had been one available when I was in the market for a card. I went for the best card I could buy. Hell, I might have ended up with a Parhelia if it had been available then. Basically this whole thread is a wind up. As long as no-one takes it too seriously, it's just a bit of fun and banter.  8)

Yep, for the most part ;) If i'd thought it'd gone to far, i would have locked the thread, but it hasn't... yet.. :D

It was just a warning not to get too personal as it was starting to get that way ;)

Undergrid

Wolfey, the test sites I posted were in response to your claim that your Ti4600 was faster than a 9700, they have nothing to do with the 9800 vx the FX cards, frankly I don't know which of them is faster, and I don't particlarly care.

For the noise, remember to order a pair of ear defenders with your card.
And you might be able to loose the use of a PCI slot, but I cant.  While I dont actually use the slot, I do use the backplane(extra USB ports on a backplane) and with no other slots free I can't move it anywhere.

Det beta drivers being "released"?  Isn't escaped a better word for it?  I remember the beta drivers at times causing people nothing but trouble with system instability and corrupted displays.  I know people that actually had to reinstall systems when a Det beta driver screwed the whole thing up.  Every single Catalyst release from ATI has (and will be) WHQL certified (thats 10 last year, and expected to be 12 releases over the next 12 months) and while that doesn't guarantee that there wont be bugs, it generally means your system files wont get corrupted  for no apparent reason.  And if you seriously want to try beta's all you have to do is join the beta program, and then you actually have a chance to send feedback that ATI will take note of.  You think nVidia take notice of everything that people post about unofficial betas?

Voodoo 2?  Nah, nothing beats the Diamond Stealth 64

On my part it is a bit of fun and banter, the Radeon is a great card, i personally wouldnt buy one, but thats beside the point, anything that lets you run at >150fps on UT2003 is a great card regardless of brand.......

Steve, the Crapeon idea was yours, i just made it happen.... dont try to wiggle out of that one my friend!! lol
