Hello All,

I apologise if this is one of those topics that continually gets asked, but I did run a couple of searches on here and did not find anything, anyway here goes, I have tried hosting the farm map 1.2, with me playing on it as well in 800 X600, but as soon as 4 or more people join its LAG city, everyone gets the old 999 ping, do you guys have any tips fot this kind of issue, my system:

ver 1.11 MOHAA
K7S5A Motherboard
AMD XP 1600
512Mb DDR
geforce2 Ti 64mb
ADSL (Pipex)
Alcatel speedtouch modem
I am running all latest updates and my network card is disabled.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks and regards.
Steve.

I'm not one of the server experts but here's a few pointers that I know of. You may need to set the max rate for connections on your server to something like 3000-4000. People might be connecting with rates of 25000 which is going to use up your upload bandwidth very quickly indeed. You might also want to ask people to set the rate in game to ISDN (if they have cable/ADSL). If you set max rate this won't affect in game performance but it will help to stop lag when people first connect. Hope this helps. People like Rizla, Mike, Skidmark and Spikey will be able to help further.

Lot

sv_maxRate 4000
//Max data transmit rate to clients by the server.

sv_maxPing 400
//Keeps anyone with a higher ping than this value from
    //connecting to the server

maxRate caps the client speeds; over ADSL 4000 is good for 8 players and 3000 is good for 10 though it may get laggish. Players that have higher than ISDN set can cause lag to other players when they join the server before the rate cap kicks in (someone elses theory haven't proved it myself).

Playing on the server isn't such a good idea. I tried it and it caused all kinds of lag type problems to the players. This happened on LOL V2 DM when hosting a 14-player match on HS-4 (dual ADSL hosted).

I run MoH client on another machine now.
