Star trek online going free to play?

Well if Champions online does well in free to play mode then Star Trek online might follow the same route!

I agree, I wouldn't mind playing STOL again but I don't see the point of subscribing.  That said, theres a chance one could spend more on addon's from the store (and I'm sure they'll put in limits that free accounts have to unlock aka LOTRO), but it least its your choice then.
