My linux firewall is a p200 with 80 odd megs of ram. do you think this is quick enough to cope with running a full-time UT server as well as the firewall stuff??

DubWhiZZ

No
But try it anyway.

Hmm i used to have a k62 350 that i used to host a dedicated unreal server. it never had more than 3 people playing, and it was just for my lan, but it seemed to work :)

DubWhiZZ

I used to run a K6 450 as a server on a lan for h/l but I think a P200 will be pushing it for anything more than a couple of clients. Always worth a try though.

Well i've given up for the time being.. my linux ability verges on zero.. i have to launch X to edit anything lol

I'm going to try setting one up on my work machine; at least the graphics card in that will let me launch the game and configure from inside  8)

It's a bit more powerful - athlon 800 with 512mb ram so should be better suited anyway.

I'm hoping to get it running by the weekend, but i doubt it will be 24/7....

at least to start with

It'll be modded to carry all bonus packs, plus a couple more maps, sound packs and the rumiko model  (+asia skins) I'll post details once it's available

Oooh. Could this be hamsterserver.com-8/9 we ask ourselves. The hamsters they multiply. I like a game of UT.

fury

could be!

hong kong phooey... number one super guy..

sorry couldn't resist

fury

what other ports do i need to open up other than udp 7777?

fury

looks like it's just 7777

213.152.36.197

going to try to keep it up for most of the weekend if i can..

You'll need all the bonus packs installed, I've put which mods are installed on www.hodd.org/ut/mods.html None of the extra stuff is actually activated at the mo, you should be able to get on with just the bonus packs.

As far as i know, it's not advertising its presence, so i'm not sure you'll find it in ase/gs, but doing an 'open location' from within UT works

I'll apologise now if it's crap - it's my first attempt at hosting anything, so there'll be plenty to learn and tweak as time goes on :)

I noticed a few people failed to connect yesterday, the logs show
"DevNet: Received invalid file request"

i take it this is because i have a download limit of 100000 bytes?

ideas anyone??

fury

i'm running the server again tonight, deathmatch running thro the medium maps. (same ip as before)

could some of you have a go at connecting just to confim it works??

I'll be out until about 9-9:30 but i'll check back as soon as i'm in

thanks

Jon

fury

yet again, i'm running a test of my UT server...

i've never seen a conection despite my desparate adverts in here

213.152.36.197, v436 and all the bonus packs. should be running until i go to bed or when i get up in the morning, depends ;)

one of these days i'll get it running properly on my linux box and then it can be 24/7!

Calibrax

maybe this is why you have no connections....

I have the right version, all the bonus packs, but when I try and connect I get the message :

Package "credits" version mismatch

... whatever that means. I have no problem connection to any other servers.

UK SkidMark

Have a look here see if any of that makes sense. My copy hasn't arrived yet, so can't test.

fury

hmm.. strange.. cybrosis][ isn't even in my map rotation...
