i've been looking at some monitor's and would like to know what you lot think, the first is a Hercule's prophetview 720 15'' TFT monitor from pc world online and it costs ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£197 and the other is a hitachi 19'' flat crt monitor form overclocker's uk costing a nice ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£187.12 (god know's why they need the 12p) , which do you think i should get .

These are purely personal opinions:

1) Avoid PC World like the plague

2) Bigger screen on CRT and finer image quality, better for gaming

3) Avoid PC World like the plague

Just a thought!

But have you tried PC World?

Cheap TFT monitors are no good for gaming, because the recovery speed of the gooey stuff in the screen isn't fast enough. Although monitors are now coming out that are good enough, you won't be getting one for ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£200 :D

I had read somewhere (can't remember where) that due to the way TFT monitors are manufactured, you're not guaranteed to get a flawless screen - quite often the odd pixel here and there doesn't work and you get a red dot instead. The article i'd read said that manufacturers tend to give an idea as to the average number of pixels that might not work, but resellers rarely quote it   (i haven't found said details on the sites i looked at)

My TFT here at work only has the one pixel that is kaputt, and it's in the bottom right so i hardly notice it, but if it was slap bang in the middle, i can imagine it'd send me loopy :D

Apparantly TFT monitors are optimised for a given resolution, and can look blocky when running something lower. Say you win the lottery and get yourself a 20" TFT, designed to run @ 1600x1200, and whilst we're in fantasy land, say doom3 is released, but your machine wont run it @ 1600x1200 so you knock it down to 1200x1600.. all of a sudden, things aren't as sharp as they should be....

At home, I have a 19" crt and although it takes up a lot of space, i wouldn't swap it for anything (other than a 21" :D)
