Looking for opinions on this Anti-Cheat stuff

Hi guys.

First, by NO means is this a post saying any cheating, etc is being done here.

Just I don't have any other place to ask this...hehe

I used to play alot of MoHAA, but because of the cheating on MOST servers (OR percieved aura of cheating) I decided to play other games.

Now with Spearhead coming out, I want to give it a try again and someone pointed me here:

I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience with this program or used this on servers and is it 'safe' and does it do what it claims to do.

I am curious more than anything.. and I figured someone here has tried it and would like their thoughts.

It would be up to Barrysworld to put it on hs-1 - they havent so far and I can presume either 1. Its rubbish, 2. They dont know about it or 3. They cant install it cos of the way their servers are set up...

Personally I dont know how effective it really is. We could give it a test run on one of the smaller hamsterservers I suppose...

Thanks for your reply.

I think you misunderstood me a bit.

I was not saying Hamster needs it or should install it... I was simply asking if any player used the Client version to find servers that they flag as "non-cheat" servers.

that said it does not stop you guys from trying it... but I was more asking about the client version.

I've seen " No cheat tools" before, but when they are there there will always be guys finding a way to cheat anyway.
Best is to have the server monitored (Like the good old {HamsteR}'s do) and ban the cheaters for life.

What do you guys mean by cheating ?
i.e. What was it that made you 'perceive' cheating ?

What sort of cheats are there in the MOH world? Aimbots? Reduced damage ?? I dunno, please tell me as I've never heard of any, and sometimes people think there are cheats around just because they're being beaten, when mostly it's down to latency in the internet.

There is one cheat I'm aware of (a .pk3 file) which makes the bushes invisible... so a sniper can sit inside a bush and shoot people with no bushes blocking his view, or he can see anyone hiding in a bush, clear as day... I have seen screenshots of it, but never seen it in action.

Must say I've not heard of that one either.
Wouldn't it have to be run server side?

you can turn off the fog just by typing something in the config file.
I did try it but felt really bad and took it out.

the cheats are going to ruin our game  
i was shot yesturday , i was sat in a corner and the player ran around and shot me before i could even get a shot off. i was sat still quiate and he was running making noise ,so i knew he was coming, and yet he saw me before i saw him

Heh! Thats not the worst of it. There is a massive exploit within mohaa, and servers are crashing left, right and centre because of it and will EA do anything about it? No!

Since spearhead has gone gold I suspect it has the same bug in it.

There is to much conflicting evidence to say that cheating goes on, I don't know what to belive.
There have been times when I have been shot and I have no idea where it came from, especially when your in the ducting and there is only 2 ways you can be shot from

I don't know if cheating goes on or not alot of strange things happen sometimes and I wonder.

One thing I found when I first came to play on the hamsterserver was the skill level of the players was much higher than I had come across on other servers. This led me to believe cheating was going on when in fact ...they really are that good....my level of play matched the level of players I had been up against. I know the consoles don't really like spectators but if you are new try to follow the playes that regularly score well or play the same side as them follow and watch how they play. I have players I regularly watch or follow to try to improve my game. I may be old but not too old to learn a few new tricks. Hopefully oneday .....I will be that good.....

p.s. being able to crash a server isn't a cheat. :p
