/gets the c4 ready
Here, Tricky tricky tricky :D
Edit: Oh my sig thing has changed....
edit2, Byeeeeeeee sig
Mine was delivered today. Had a quick bash at the single player, not that impressed. But I bought it because I enjoyed the multiplayer beta. So far however I haven't been able to join a game, just keep getting "Failed to connect to server". Looks like it's the usual launch problems with server overloads. :(
yes SP is sh1t (more so on the pc, i think they let the boss of EA come up with what keys did what) but MP is great
Mine also arrived today and I had a bit of a bash. First impressions of the control panel interface and SP game weren't great. I'm not sure they bothered to test things like key binding. I spent the first 5 minutes dying as my joystick controlled movement as well as mouse, and the joystick couldn't be unbound. Managed to do it eventually although I still find that with MP I have to reset my personal preferences every time I load the game - e.g. zoom mode keeps changing back to 'hold', I prefer 'click'. Also graphics settings keep changing back from customised to auto. Bah! Anyway, SP sucks. But MP is really rather good so far. The squad play works pretty well. Medics are definately necessary! Ammo runs out quick so people need to give that out a lot. Graphics are pretty awesome too. The urban street combat is excellent.
I've created a {HamsteR} platoon - I assume no-one else has. I've tried to invite all of you but only hamsterrover is showing up in Battlelog as someone I can import from Origin. God knows why it isn't picking up the rest of you guys who are my 'Origin friends'. Hopefully once we all join the same platoon it'll make joining games as a group easier if we wish. I assume that's the idea. However, based on the crap testing I've seen so far I won't get my hopes up.
BTW, I kept getting kicked out of MP games after a random time period with server disconnection errors. Disabling uPNP on my sucky BE Box (Thomson 585) seemed to fix that.
One thing that annoys me is the server based multiplayer. No peer-to-peer. Which means I can't start a private game and then practice on my own, doing stuff like flying the choppers etc. So I have to learn while in a live game, and as always getting hold of a vehicle in a live game is a lottery :(
Just join an empty server. That's what I did when I want to mess with the choppers in BFBC2. You can filter to show only empty servers. Admittedly, you have to hope no-one else joins but it usually works.
No pings in your server browser when running IE? Run 32bit IE in Administrator mode (not 64bit IE if you have that). Pings will magically appear.
Oh and the keybinding were sorted out by resetting all to defaults then re-configuring so that was a relief. Also the gameplay settings seemed to stick then as well.
For those that have the game, what are your Origin account ID's :at-at:

Just do a search for the {HamsteR} platoon. We're all in there.
See you all on the Battlefield on monday. Damn nightshifts :D
I'm having problems doing that.

Nope. Puts you in the game but doesn't let you move at all until you have a minimum number of players :(
Found you guys but maybe because I'm on Xbox360 it wont let me apply to join the platoon :(
Error it gives is "You cannot apply to this platoon with your currently selected soldier"...
Are you Paracen?

Yep, I'm Paracen. Had used "calibrax" on original xbox and when I got a 360 I couldn't remember the password for the calibrax account. So I used one of my Earth & Beyond aliases instead :)
I tried inviting you instead but it wouldn't let me do it that way either - got a message about you being on a different platform.

God damn... another website using that damn worst-practice hash-bang
:cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop: :cop:
if it's ajax powered, they're supposed to stick that in the url to signify it for seo?
we tend to render then overwrite with an ajax update though, much neater :)
It was ment as a SEO lifeline for badly designed sites, not as a new way of implementing hidden data. Have a look at these URLs for info

The quote is most amusing

the #! URL syntax was especially geared for sites that got the fundamental web development best practices horribly wrong, and gave them a lifeline to getting their content seen by Googlebot.
And today, this emergency rescue package seems to be regarded as the One True Way of web development by engineers from Facebook, Twitter, and now Lifehacker.
And now EA, sigh..
ta for the links, will pass them on to teh dev team - i tend to spend my time on back-end stuff so have escaped the front end bollocks so only have a very ignorant, passing knowledge of his kind of malarkey :banana2: :cop:
Expecting the delivery of my new oooober pooter in the next week, shoud be giving BF3 a run.
I couldn't even upgrade as all my kit was so ancient :?
BF3 looks lonely sitting on my desk in still in the wrapper :(
what's with all the server time outs?
anyone else having such issues?
I had the same issues. I fixed it by disabling uPNP on my router. Other people on the BF3 forums have reported that re-installing Punkbuster with the 'correct' version (whatever that means) fixes it. I'd try disabling uPNP first before messing with PB.
manually updated punkpuster and done the following, still not having much luck.
Okay so after six hours of desperately trying to get the game running with the major error being the "Your connection to the server has timed out" i finally managed to solve it. I'm on windows 7 64bit, i've tried everything there is to try and nothing helped. I cannot guarantee that this will work but you can give it a try. Now i can play rounds for as long as i like and theres NO disconnection or crash whatsoever.
Here goes:
1. Press: Windows-button (the one between lAlt and lCtrl) + R, a window should pop up.
2. Write: "services.msc" (without the ") then press enter.
3. In the list of services, scroll down to "UPnP Device Host", click it and press "Stop service".
4. Now do the same thing but with the service "SSDP Discovery".
5. Exit the window and go to control panel-> Network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Centre-> Change advanced sharing settings (to the left)-> Under "network discovery" select to turn off network discovery.
6. SAVE CHANGES
This should solve the problem, if it didn't, we'll just have to wait for Dice/EA to fix it.
Online EA customer support blame it on my ISP and port blocking. The following must be open apparently. :derpnextgen:
TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

Note this might stop network detection for WiFi networks working, so probably not worth doing on a laptop.
According the the level 1 techncian at O2 there is a known issue with this particular game
and a hotfix is available for the router, that is supposed to resove the constant disconnects .
They were not able to go into any detail about what causes it but I was asked to turn off the box for a period of time.
No ports were apparently being blocked and my particular package doesn't have traffic management in force for gaming.
Time will tell if this has been resolved, will give the game another blast now.
Added a 18 player server to my fav's. Should allow anyone to lvl up nice 'n' quick :D
Did you try my suggestion of disabling uPNP?
Yes it worked a treat 8)
lol i too am on o2 but ive not had to mess with anything to get bf3 too work yay for my shit old o2box
I'll be leaving O2 anyway at the end of December for BT infinity :-)
I have the O2 version III box, although there is now a newer router out known as IV.
BF3 End Game expansion is out :D
edit:12th of March for Premium player :(
I have got it. The new maps are well designed - especially the foresty one with the railroad. You can sneak around in the undergrowth shooting unsuspecting enemy. The dirt bike is great for getting around as well.
