Title: Blueyonder launches 2MB broadband service
Post by: Calibrax on May 15, 2003, 07:16:44 PM
For those of you who didn't know, Blueyonder have launched their 2MB service. Price is ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£54.99 per month (or ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£50 per month if you also have their telephone service).

If you already have Blueyonder, you can upgrade online via the 'Self-Care' section on the BY website. I just did! And I cancelled my cable sports and movie channels to pay for it.. well, I don't watch them that much, especially when there's no Premiership footie on!  8)

Im looking into this, and to me im unsure wether its worth it.

I could go for it straight away, but the upload is still only 256kbps, and are you really gonna get those downloads speeds ???

Maybe i'll wait and see !

I think you can move up and down month by month with selfcare.

Upload is still 256kbps, which has annoyed a lot of people, as has the price...  apparently a Telewest spokesman said 'it's easier for us to lower the price later than have to raise it later'... which makes no sense, as it's not really costing them anything extra to bump us up to 2MB....

The selfcare option allows you to switch speeds, but when you sign up to the 2MB, you have to take it for a minimum of 2 months.

Incidentally, the 1MB service I paid ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£35 a month, not ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£39.99 because I have one other service from Telewest (the TV channels). But for the 2MB I have to pay the higher price of ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£54.99, because the discounted price only applies if you take the telephone service from them.

Still, it's ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£20 extra a month for the 2MB, and by canelling movies and sports from my cable, I saved ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£24 a month. So I'm actually ÃÆ'ââ,¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ,£4 a month better off  8)

I still want to know why someone doesn't come to their senses and provide a service with a more respectable UPSTREAM speed. I can understand that they want you to take SDSL/Leased Line products for that, but i know a lot of home users that obviously can't afford SDSL, but WOULD be willing to pay a little more for more lanes travelling out.

Dear oh dear when will they do what i want :(
