the forums are in a state of transition - things like the smileys (and pm's not working) will be sorted as soon as the forum config can be updated.

the old link to the forums will work until the config is changed.

When I use the new link to the forums, and I click to log in, it comes up with the message "Please login before posting"...  :?

Lovely design though, very classy :)

eh? we've used a phpbb forum for yonks  :?

personally, i've found php to be much quicker than jsp and asp :D it does really depend on how good the code is underneath though.. poor code is poor code no matter what language it's run in :D

No offense meant, i play around with ASP, i am by no means serious about my coding, if u want serious talk to Stew, that man can make ASP do things i can only dream of.

I tried php and to be honest it confused the hell out of me, i have no programming background so it left me a little confused, but 99% of sites which run php are badly coded like u say, mainly cos its free and its widely available on a lot of very bad hosts, thats where the true speed comes from, the quality of the hosting company.

Aint really looked into post nuke, what is it? Is it PHP by numbers? Plug and php that sort of thing?? I guess so with the fact that its all done thru Modules....not that thats a bad thing, an automated site is a good thing, no matter how it comes about.

no offence taken ;)

Quote from: WolverineI tried php and to be honest it confused the hell out of me, i have no programming background so it left me a little confused

yeah, i suppose it could seem that way ;) i've been programming for a long time, and it's possibly the most normal code-like scripting language i've come across. I use tcl and a custom api at work which is very powerful (read 'expensive') and php is the best contender i've seen.

postnuke is a full-on cms (content management system)

the main pages on the old site were all hand coded, and it meant quite a bit of work when we needed to change details.

having a full database-driven site allows us to manage the content a lot more efficiently..

there's no coding required, which is great for the admin team because just like everyone else, we'd rather be playing than working :D

Dont forget, there is a reviews section of the site where you can submit reviews of your favourite games, 2toes has already written a review of Spearhead, I've written a EAB review and currently writing a warcraft III review.

You can also submit news to go on the front page, it can be about any of the games featured on this site, or something more general to the hamster community :D

Im still not too sure, think I preffered it how it was, but no doubt it will grow on me.

as far as reviews go.

Is there anything against writing another review of a game already reviewed, you know to get mixed opinions?

..and if there are any features you'd like to see, just ask.

The worst that could happen is we say no

This is not the admin's site - it's everyones ;)  The more people that contribute, the richer the site will become

Maj Al,

I've been using R.o.W's site since the've had it setup, and JonH helped them to use this new format (Postnuke).

And I think you will get to love it, some of the stats make for fun but also can help a server / site make best use's out of its facilties.

Also we all have our own views on games, life, and other stuff. But they are all welcome here as long as they dont break the rules !

So this is a great chance for peeps who may not post a lot, or those who do, to create interesting reading for others.

And as your aware knowledge is power........

Well, i'd like to see JH on HS1 more often, couple of nights ago we had a bit of a ding dong going on a couple of maps and twas great fun.....

Seriously though, a gallery would be coolio, somewhere where we can all upload a picture of ourselves, and maybe our rigs......

Not that Me, Quince, Brad, Spike, Lt O Top and the other EaB addicts will ever get chance to take 5 mins off to use the upload routine.....

thinking about the news section - if you are aware of new patches / game developments for any of the games we cover in hs.com, please feel free to submit a news item (http://www.hamsterserver.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Submit_News&file=index)

Assuming it's suitable, it'll get approved by one of the admins in due course ;)

There should be asuitable topic for all items - if you think you need a new topic creating contact an admin via irc or pm.

you've got 2 options

1: write another separate review
2: add a comment to the existing review - you can even give your own mark out of 10 on the comment, so this option is probably the most preferable.

Just a couple of points,

Off how to develop our site,

1) When you 1st connect to home page, it would be better if the login and passord was towards the top left of the page, saves scrolling down every time..

2) Its a nightmare trying to login into your private messages, ie trying to find them again. Its ok when you have a New Private Message. But if you want to check some previous ones its a real pain..

Sorry JonH if this cause's more work, and I might be wrong but this is what I am experiencing while using it....

LOL  :)

The login block as been moved to the top on the right hand side (i've done this on previous postnuke sites - thanks for the reminder :D )

I've added a link to the menu on the left for your PMs, labelled 'Messages'
