Heres a handy little tool, that easily converts mkv files to mp4 format so they are watchable on the 360 and PS3

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GOTSent

Theres another one click app too http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVBoxer - but it seems to have problems with a few files GOTSent does not complain about. Both are quite fast at converting and seem to use very little cpu :D.

Coupled with the fact that divx/xvid are watchable on the 360 through media player playlist sharing (not windows media centre extender on the 360) then I'm pretty much sorted now for watching all of my movies and tv progs through the 360 ;).

Also found out the 360 can apparently read flash drives, so can stick stuff on my new 16GB flash drive ;)
I play games on a:
ZX Spectrum 48K | Grundig C410 cassette recorder (adjustable head) | 20BT TV Philips Multistandard Color V37cm | ZX Interface 2 | New Kempston Compatible Competition Pro Switched Joystick | Sinclair BASIC OS

bloody hell dude couldnt you have waited untill the real morning to post that ;) anyway thats good to know, not sure what the point is of media center is if you cant use it for divx and the othere file types (me has been trying for ages to get it to work with them) i might as well just use the video option on the 360 dashboard insted.
